I usually “give the floor a job” by clipping a skinny strip of ND to the bottom of the muslin or flagging the bounce so you get a subtle 1/3-stop gradient that lands right under the hero and lays a faint rake shadow. If the Masonite’s still drinking too much, a whisper of satin or a light wax helps the grad read — just watch for surprise spec hits.
@brettH1980’s gradient note is spot on — I’ll tape a 10-inch strip of 216 to the deck just out of frame and rake a dim 2800K tube across it so the Masonite picks up a soft warm horizon that pins the tin; if it starts to mirror, a light Krylon 1311 pass keeps it tame.
